Brothers is a touching opera by Daníel Bjarnason about the sacrifices of war, brotherhood and love based on the film Brodre by Susan Bier.

Kasper Holten, who is currently the Executive Director of Det Kongelige Teater in Copenhagen is the stage director of the production and the libretto is by Kerstin Perski. Steffen Aarfing is the stage designer.

Brothers is a touching story about two brothers. The older brother Michael is called away to war and his family thinks he has died. His younger brother Jamie stayed behind and lives an unbalanced life getting into trouble with the law. When Michael returns unexpectedly the balance is forever changed between them and their relationship will never be the same. Michael has endured a terrible tragedy in the camp where he was held and has a hard time coping with the trauma.

The opera has been performed in Aarhus 2017, Eldborg 2018 and at the Armel Opera Festival in Budapest 2019. It has been very well received and unanimously praised by critics receiving numerous awards.
