Information about accessibility issues in Harpa and the assistance available.
Accessibility in Harpa for people with reduced mobility
Harpa offers excellent wheelchair access, featuring three elevators that connect the parking garage directly to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors. All concert halls include designated areas for wheelchair users; however, these spaces must be reserved in advance at the Harpa ticket office.
Eldborg: Eldborg has eight wheelchair spaces. These spaces are free, but an assistant is charged if one is needed. Additionally, free chairs can be removed from various locations within the hall and on the balcony to accommodate a wheelchair. However, these specific spaces are not free and must be reserved well in advance. Please note that these seats may not be available for all events.
Silfurberg: Wheelchair spaces are located in the middle of the hall, and the same fee applies to these spaces as to other seats in the hall.
Norðurljós: Wheelchair spaces are available in the auditorium, and the same fee applies to other seats in this space.
Kaldalón: Wheelchair spaces are available in the back row of the auditorium, and the same fee applies to other seats.
Assistance for the Visually Impaired
Harpa offers assistance for visually impaired individuals to help them navigate between locations within its facilities. Notifying the Box Office in advance is important to ensure proper arrangements. You can reach them by emailing boxoffice@harpa.is or calling +354 528 5050.
Hearing aids
A tone mesh system or similar technology can greatly benefit individuals who use hearing aids by reducing background noise and enhancing their listening experience. Harpa offers access to this equipment, which transmits infrared signals wirelessly. These signals can be received through headphones, a receiver, or a hearing loop compatible with hearing aids.
Guests who wish to utilise this equipment are encouraged to inform the box office when purchasing their tickets. Please note that the transmitters are available only in the Eldborg, Silfurberg, Norðurljós, and Kaldalón venues, not other areas of the building.
Guide Dogs/Assistance Dogs
In certain halls at Harpa, seats are reserved for guests accompanied by a guide or assistance dog. These seats must be reserved in advance at the Harpa ticket office.
Eldborg: Guests with a guide or assistance dog will be accommodated on the 3rd balcony.
Silfurberg: Guests with a guide or assistance dog will be accommodated at the back of the hall on the right.
Norðurljós: Guests with a guide or assistance dog will be accommodated at the back of the hall on the left.
Kaldalón: Guests with a guide or assistance dog will be accommodated in the back row of the hall.
Guide or assistance dogs should not sit in a seat or in the aisle; instead, they should sit or lie on the floor in front of or beside their owner. If possible, the dog should be muzzled. For example, the dog must be clearly identified as a guide or assistance dog by wearing a harness or vest.
