The Board of Directors at Harpa has established an Advisory Programme Council to support the effective implementation and execution of Harpa's programme strategy. The council's primary goal is to promote quality and diversity in event hosting at Harpa, ensuring that the building fulfils its cultural role to the best of its capabilities.

Harpa's programming strategy focuses on the following key areas:

  • Children's culture and family-friendly programming
  • Borgartorg as a venue for festivals open spaces, and Hörputorg
  • Promoting diversity and enhancing accessibility for grassroots and young musicians
  • Organizing first-class international events through Hörpustrengir

The programming council primarily focuses on the last-mentioned aspect.

Role

The advisory role involves helping to develop proposals for consideration by the Harpa board. This includes identifying key priorities and significant projects for the long-term management of events and collaborative initiatives at Harpa. The council collaborates closely with the CEO and project manager to select events organised by Hörpustrengir. Additionally, the council will engage in conceptual work and make proposals to implement Harpa's programming strategy practically and ambitiously.

Composition

The Programming Council shall consist of individuals with diverse and extensive music knowledge—both domestically and internationally—who are willing to work ambitiously with Harpa. The Council is composed of four members who serve two-year terms.

The Harpa Board shall ensure that the Council's composition reflects gender equality and the broadest possible range of knowledge of its projects.

The Council consists of Ásmundur Jónsson, Chairman, María Markan, Sóley Stefánsdóttir and Unnsteinn Manúel Stefánsson.

The Project Manager for Programming at Harpa is Elísabet Indra Ragnarsdóttir, and she works with the Council.
