Upprásin concert series starts again

Grassroots music is blooming in Harpa

Upprásin, a concert series for the grassroots of Icelandic music life, starts again on Tuesday, September 10. Upprásin is a collaboration between Harpa, Reykjavík Music City, Rás 2 and Landsbankinn.

This is the second year that the concert series has been held, but it is part of implementing Harpa's programme strategy to improve grassroots and young people's access to all musical genres and increase the variety of events held in Harpa. In addition to supporting the grassroots of Icelandic music life, the goal is also that music enthusiasts will be able to hear a variety of new Icelandic music, straight from the grassroots of the music life, performed regularly under ideal conditions in the nation's concert hall.

Like last year, the reception was good and 140 applications were received for participation in the concert series this winter. The selection committee was faced with the difficult task of choosing from all the talented artists who applied, and 27 acts were chosen for participation, although many more could have done well in the concert series. It is clear that the grassroots are flourishing.

The first year Upprásin was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards 2023 in the music event of the year category, as well as nominated for the Grapevine Shout Out Music Awards.

Upprásin's concerts take place monthly on Tuesday evenings in Kaldalón on the 1st floor of Harpa from September until May. Three musical acts are performed every night, and therefore a total of 27 acts will be performed in Upprásin in the winter of 2024-2025.

The entrance fee is moderate and the ticket costs ISK 2000. but guests can add grants that go directly to the musicians during the ticket sales process.
