Welcome to Harpa

on Reykjavik Culture Night

Reykjavik Cultural Night has a special place in Harpa's history. In the opening year of 2011, the building was inaugurated on Reykavik Culture Night and Ólafur Elíasson's first light artwork was lit on the glass facade. Ever since then, the day has been a true festival in Harpa, where a varied program is offered for people of all ages, free of charge to visitors.

Various artists will perform in Harpa and guests can enjoy everything that the building has to offer. At Harpa Square there will be an impressive programme in collaboration with Landsbankinn and Hafnartorg to mark the completion of construction on the square.

The festivities begin at 1 p.m. with a parade of three brass bands from Lækjartorg, Austurvöllur and Ingólfstorg that march together to Hörputorg, where there will be over fifty events for people of all ages throughout the day. Ragga Gísla and Halldór Gunnar then close the festival program at 17.45 and lead guests and pedestrians in a chorus that will resound from all levels in Harpa's public space.

There will be plenty for children and families who can build boats and let them float on the pond outside Harpa, create a shadow theater in Þykjó's Shadow Theater Studio, learn how to drum, go to a ball with The Reykjavik Big Band and learn dance steps from Sveiflustöðin, DJ Stjáni Stuð and Ólafur Snævar.

The Icelandic Symphony Orchestra will have two concerts together with the members of Fílalag, fairy-tale creatures will appear from various directions and circus performances will take place outside, inside and in the air. BMX BRÓS show amazing skills on bikes. The band VÆB will perform in Flói as well as Andervel, KUSK and Óviti, who will be in the grassroots concert series Upprásin this winter.

In Norðurljós, there will be an impressive singing program all day, featuring the men's choir Fóstbræður, Dísella Lárusdóttir, Guðrún Ólafsdóttir and Hanna Ágústa Olgeirsdóttir, who is the voice of the year and winner of Vox Domini. A Faroese program will take place in Kaldalón, Dans Afríka Iceland will perform music and dances from Guinea, and Hnokkar will play jazz music inspired by New Orleans. There will be countless events such as a brass band battle, a piano concert, an art exhibition and much more.

Come join us at Harpa for an exciting day, where joy, music and variety will be at the forefront.
