Sunday Clas­sics: Nína Mar­grét - Por­trait

Pianist Nína Margrét Grímsdóttir performs a solo recital in Harpa Norðurljós concert hall on May 18th 2025 at 16:00. The recital is a part of the Sígildir sunnudagar concert series. The year 2025 marks Nína Margrét´s 40th anniversary as pianist and piano teacher with her 1985 soloist diploma graduation and also celebrating her 60th birthday in May. The program will include works dear to the pianist by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Grieg, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff.

Pianist dr. Ni´na Margre´t Gri´msdo´ttir is one of Iceland ´s most established classical performers and recording artist. She has performed in Europe, USA, Canada, Japan and China, including concertos with the Royal Chamber Orchestra in Tokyo, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Reykjavi´k Chamber Orchestra, Iceland Amateur Symphony Orchestra and the Reykjavik Wind Quintet. She has recorded five CDs for Naxos, BIS Records, Acte Pre´alable and Skref. Her CDs and concerts have received excellent reviews in major music publications such as Gramophone Awards Issue, BBC Music Magazine, Glasgow Herald, Crescendo-Magazine, Xi ´an Evening News,classicstoday.com and High Fidelity.

Nína Margrét was founder and artistic director of concert series in Harpa, Salurinn and Cultural Center Gerðuberg 2001-2019. Her 2001 recording of the piano works of dr. Páll Ísólfsson on BIS Records was nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards and her published doctoral dissertation on this subject as well as her masters thesis on Icelandic piano music have aroused interest internationally on Icelandic cultural heritage. Nína Margrét has performed in various music festivals such as the Reykjavik Arts festival, Reykholt chamber music festival, Dark Music Days, Azaleu Festival and Whitehorse Circumpolar Festival. She has been awarded grants and recognition by the Iceland ministries of culture and education, City of Reykjavik, American-Scandinavian Foundation, American-Scandinavian Society and British Council.

Nína Margrét holds a D.M.A. performance degree from the City University of New York. Her current teaching positions include Sigursveins Music School where she is departmental chair of the advanced department and Kopavogur Music School where her piano students are regular winners of top prizes in local and international competitions. Prior positions and guest professorship include the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Reykjavik College of Music, University of Agder and University of Karlstad.
