Up­prásin - Spacesta­tion, Svartþoka and As­alaus

Concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music, across musical genres.

Harpa, in cooperation with Reykjavík Music City and the broadcasting channel Rás 2, is organizing a concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music across musical genres.

The concert series is called Upprásin, and takes place in Kaldalón music hall one Tuesday evening each month in the winter of 2024–2025. The concert series is a part of the implementation of the policy of Harpa to open doors for the grassroots and young people across genres and to increase diversity. The goal is also for music lovers to be able to easily access new Icelandic music of various kinds, directly from the grassroots of the music scene, performed in the optimal facilities of the nation’s premier concert hall.

The ticket price is 2000 isk.

The band Spacestation draws inspiration from various sources, the nightlife, love and other addictive things. The band is well known in the Reykjavík grassroot scene and two of their songs, “Í draumalandinu” and “Hvítt vín” (e. “In Utopia” and “White wine”) have been very well received and played on the radio. Their soundscape is inspired by 60's rock and shoegaze and they aim for playing the kind of rock and roll that people can dance to.

Svartþoka is an experimental/electronic/metal trio from Reykjavík, who havel cemented their place in the Icelandic metal scene through evocative and emotional live performances. Svartþoka invite their audience into a world of guitar drones, drum machines, screams, theremin and whichcraft. The band consists of Día Andrésdóttir, who plays guitar and screams, Ólöf Rún Benediktsdóttir, who plays the theremin and synthesizer and sings, and Unnur Björk Jóhannsdóttir, who also screams.

Asalaus is the stage name for experimental musician Ása Önnu Ólafsdóttir. Asalaus has released two full-length albums and one EP to date, each showcasing the artist's unique vision and innovative approach to sound. The first album received a nomination for the Kraumur awards.

Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sources, including ambient music, post-rock, and classical music, Asalaus blends elements from each to create a sound that is both familiar and wholly original. Utilising a variety of instruments and effects, Asalaus's music is a constantly evolving soundscape that is both immersive and captivating.
