Concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music, across musical genres.

Harpa, in cooperation with Reykjavík Music City and the broadcasting channel Rás 2, is organizing a concert series dedicated to the grassroots of Icelandic music across musical genres.

The concert series is called Upprásin, and takes place in Kaldalón music hall one Tuesday evening each month in the winter of 2024–2025. The concert series is a part of the implementation of the policy of Harpa to open doors for the grassroots and young people across genres and to increase diversity. The goal is also for music lovers to be able to easily access new Icelandic music of various kinds, directly from the grassroots of the music scene, performed in the optimal facilities of the nation’s premier concert hall.

The ticket price is 2000 isk.

Sóðaskapur (English translation: Filth) is the messy and far from perfect side of punk. Their songs are the product of years of built-up anger towards the patriarchy, the government, and capitalism. Sóðaskapur in an all-female punk trio who want to highlight the beauty of imperfection and the troubles young people in our society are facing today. Their goal, however, is -- and has always been -- to have fun and entertain others while their at it. For what are people, if not filthy?

Inki’s compositions have resonated across stages and art galleries in Europe and the US. She has crafted her own musical instruments, composed a variety of sound installations and recently released the LP “Thoughts Midsentence”. Inki plays with the balance between the familiar and the innovative, the performance features deep bass lines, live strings, engaging rhythms, and a pure intensity of an electronic soundscape. At the concert in Harpa, Inki will play songs from this album, as well as new tunes, accompanied by Höskuldur Eiriksson on percussion, PALMR on synths and guitar, and a live string trio.

Blairstown is a band formed for a final project in Studio Sýrland. After the studio was booked, the band was formed. However, all the band members forgot about it, so the album had to be composed the day before the recording sessions. The members of Blairstown are Hlynur Sævarsson, Magnús Már Newman and Alexander Grybos.
