Many families have a habit of going swimming on Saturdays, but now they can change things up a bit and take a sound bath in Harpa!
On Saturday, January 25th, there will be an open music workshop for children and families in Harpa, where they will have the opportunity to bathe in music, play with sounds and tones, and feel how different tones and frequencies can affect the body. The workshop is open to all families and you can come and go as you like.
At Hörpuhorn:
Iðunn Einarsdóttir, Þórður Hallgrímsson, and Jón Arnar Einarsson offer
an auditory journey through the material world of pipes in all their diverse
forms. The performance features various instruments ranging from traditional
woodwind and brass instruments to recorders made from plastic drainage pipes,
organ pipes, glass drinking straws, and much more. The workshop is based on
their piece Pípumessa (Pipe Mass), which will be performed at the Dark Music
Days on Sunday, January 26, at 1:00 PM in Kaldalón.
At Þríund, third floor:
The musician and sound healer Vala Gestsdóttir guides children and families in
a magical sound bath that is a delightful blend of music and sound healing.
Guests learn about sound waves and their effects on the body and get to explore
instruments such as tuning forks, crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, and gongs.
Vala's foundation lies in music, having completed a BA in Composition and a
Master's degree in Creation, Communication, and Entrepreneurship at the Iceland
Academy of the Arts (LHÍ). She also studied acoustics and sound recording at
SAE Institute in London and Sound Healing with Acutonics in England.
Under the stairs, next to Hörpuhorn:
The
design team ÞYKJÓ assists families in creating their own musical shakers from a
variety of materials.Their design work aims to stimulate children's imagination
and creativity in collaboration with educational and cultural institutions.
Recent projects include Hljóðhimnar in Harpa and the furniture lines
Kyrrðarrými and Hreiður. ÞYKJÓ recently won the Icelandic Design Award for the
project "Children at the Table".
